Differences
between mens and womens wallets
Womens wallets are something of an oddity. There is no reason on
Earth, apart from style, why a mens and womens wallets should
look so different, but they do, and it boils down to a question
of style and practicality over actual study of use. Unless of
course you subscribe to the theory that mens wallets can be so
slim line because they don’t need to carry around spare change
in them, because they have pockets, and women only wear skirts.
With no pockets.
What is interesting is that this may have been the original
reason why womens wallets are shaped as they are. For those who
have not stpped to think about the difference between a mens
wallet and the womens variety, then this question would never
have occurred.
A mans wallet is usually an almost book-shaped container, slim,
and with pockets for cash (but only notes) and credit cards. It
is either a vertically biased affair or a horizontal one, with
the notes folding across the spine when it is closed, and this
latter usually has at least some coin storage space. Womens
wallets, on the other hand open horizontally, and have a large
pocket for coins in the middle.
Of course, part of the reason why womens wallets are so
different to mens is that they have a handbag into which they
can place their wallet, whilst a man only has a pocket in his
jacket. The womens version would just bulge too much. The rest,
is, of course, just tradition and upbringing.
