A new kind of computer bag

Carrying around a computer can be heavy work, and previously, we only had one option in the area of the computer bag. This was a kind of briefcase affair, opening in a similar fashion – horizontal – with internal straps to hold the machine in place and hopefully stop it from sliding around. Now, there is a new kind of computer bag, and we need to compare the two styles in order to decide what is best for a given need.

Firstly, each computer bag style is equally good at protecting the computer. This is important, since the reason that we need a bag is so that we are not exposing the machine to the elements as we travel from A to B. Not only the elements, but also passing people in the street, fellow passengers and so on. The machine must be protected.

The new kind of computer bag has one clear advantage over its rivals – it is based on a backpack design. This means that rather than have all the weight at the end of your arm, or cutting your arm away from your shoulder, it is spread over your back. This is great if you have to walk for any length of time.

Of course, this new kind of computer bag is not so applicable if you wear a suit, since it will probably be more than a little uncomfortable, in which case the good old hand held or over the shoulder bag is still going to be your best bet. And if you are going into really inhospitable territory – how about an aluminum case?
