Choosing from
a range of laptop carrying cases
You need to carry your laptop from A to B, and protect it from
the elements, so you need to choose from a range of laptop
carrying cases. The question is, what to look for in order to
distinguish the one for you from all the other laptop carrying
cases on offer? The first thing to ask yourself is what kind of
features are you looking for in your carrying case – because
every single additional option that you add to the bag will add
to the weight.
This only matters because you carry laptop carrying cases in one
of two modes – at the end of your arm, or slung over one
shoulder. Each is equally hard to bear if the case is stuffed
full with bits and pieces. If you are like most other users, you
will have considered buying one with so many other pockets that
carrying the laptop seems almost to be a secondary feature.
What happens then is that the other pockets that you have fill
with things that you look at once, and then forget that they
were ever there. This adds to the weight, and also indicates why
laptop carrying cases which have many interior pockets are not
always a good thing. Instead, you should opt for one which has
as few pockets as you really need.
Must have options on laptop carrying cases are pockets for your
cell phone and PDA, and possibly somewhere to put important
documents. Anything else is superfluous, unless you have
removable media and external drives to carry around as well.
