Buying a passport wallet with multiple functions

This should be a simple exercise, but buying a passport wallet is made all the more complicated with the advent of the internet by virtue of the fact that they can be sourced from almost anywhere in the world. This would not matter, except that passports are not always exactly the same size, shape or with the same features. The passport wallet has to follow the guidelines set out by the country for which it is supposed to hold the passport of.

For example, the old style British passport has a number on the front cover which must be able to be seen at all times. This large, black, document requires a very different kind of passport wallet to the newer, smaller European version. There are still a number of the old style passports in circulation, the problem being that manufacturers might try to offload the old holders on the buyer, thinking that they might not be aware that their new style passport will not fit.

Typically, a passport wallet will be made from either a man made fiber such as a plastic based leather alternative, or leather itself. A slightly less expensive alternative to leather, but without the inferior connotations of man made fibers is sheepskin, which makes a durable and original covering for any kind of wallet.

It is also a good idea to try and find a passport wallet which has multiple functions, such as also being able to carry travel documents or currency. This will ensure that its usefulness extends beyond its primary purpose, and also helps to keep everything in the same place.
