What to choose in baby backpacks

There are many products in the baby backpacks range on offer, as a quick search of the internet will show. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, and it is tough to take somebody else’s word for it – after all carrying your baby safely is a top priority. Essentially, baby backpacks have to offer security features for both the baby and parent, whilst being comfortable to carry, and, hopefully, a little bit stylish to boot.

Baby backpacks come in several styles, each designed for a different age group – from the sling style front carriers which is aimed at newborn babies up to about 25 pounds, through to full backpacks with a frame and waistband, designed for toddlers weighing up to just about any weight the parent can bear.

The latest trend has been to make baby backpacks which allow the child to face forwards, and this is good on several counts. Firstly, it allows the child to see what is going on, which can be important to development. Also, it does not restrict the child’s breathing in the way that a traditional front facing sling can. Although there is no real danger of the child being unable to breathe, it can also ease the parents mind to know that the face is entirely free.

Of course, these are only really suitable for a baby which can hold its own head, before this age baby backpacks which are side facing are more appropriate. As the child gets bigger they can graduate to a full backpack, at about the time that they can comfortably sit by themselves. This gives them the best of all worlds, and is easier for the parent to carry.
